Letter to Minister of Veterans' Affairs and response
In this week of remembrance for those courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, I felt it apropos to share with you a letter I received from the Minister of Veterans Affairs in response to an email I had sent him. I was moved to write the Minister after reading Jan Hughes' posting, "On a more serious note", Sept. 13/10, regarding the shoddy treatment of injured vets returning from Afghanistan, and more specifically Chris Nickol(ievich)'s son, Jayson. The direct response from the minister surprised me, though the bureaucratic doublespeak did not. Judging by the veterans' protest on Parliament Hill and around the nation this Saturday, they are not satisfied with the steps this Conservative government is taking to right these wrongs, which includes the dismissal of the Veterans' Ombudsman, who was actively advocating for greater veterans' benefits. I ask that as part of your Remembrance Day you go back and read Jan's post and then click on the link below to read both my letter to the Minister and his response, and if you feel so moved, write your own letters to the Minister and your MP and senator to let them know that this is unacceptable treatment of the brave men and women of our armed forces.

Talk about hot guys at the 60th reunion planning meeting! Don Hinds AND Mike Resch. That's more than we old broads can handle. I hope someone there knows CPR.
-Sherril Labovich- Ed. note; Sigh...we're sure Mr. Hinds would concur, that in addition to their timeless beauty and passion for life, what older men love most about older women is that thankfully, their eyesight ain't what it used to be... According to Maureen (Besth) Silk, of the MMC 60th reunion committee, 150 tickets have already been sold for this Friday's Bud & Spud fundraiser (5:30 to 9 pm, Nov. 5 at the CanadInn on Regent). Tickets are available at the door at $15 each or two for $25.
Ed. note; Looks like this is going to be a hot ticket for MMC grads... Worst Day of my Life
There I was, sitting at the bar staring at my drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to me, grabs my drink and gulps it down in one swig. "Well, whatcha going to do about it?" he says, menacingly, as I burst into tears. "Come on, man," the biker says, "I didn't think you'd CRY. I can`t stand to see a man crying." "This is the worst day of my life," I say. "I'm a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my old lady in bed with the gardener, and then my dog bit me." "So I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all, I buy a drink, I drop a capsule in and sit here watching the poison dissolve. Then you, you jack-ass, show up and drink the whole thing! But enough about me, how's your day going?" -Submitted by Bev Adam (Smith)- I would like add a remembrance for someone that left us just one year after graduation...Mr. Wayne Forsyth...the kindest, funniest friend, whom I said I would marry if I wasn't married by 25...never got the chance to see the future. Still with love for our dear friend.
-Amelia (Amy) Bereziuk- Ed. note; Thank you Amy, for sharing that loving tribute to an obviously very special friend in your life. You can read other remembrances of friends who have gone before us on the In Memoriam page...
